Strategy Overview

Buzzwole is one of the most physically bulky Pokemon available in the 1v1 metagame, which allows it to tank strong attacks such as +3 Waterfall from Mega Gyarados with sufficient investment. With a base Attack stat of 139 along with moves such as Bulk Up and Roost, it is able to defeat physical walls such as Avalugg, Zygarde-C, and Mega Aggron. Lunge can be used in order to not only deal damage but also lower your their Attack by one stage on each hit, shutting down Pokemon such as Mega Gyarados and Tectonic Rage Landorus-T, which need to boost their Attack to break Buzzwole. However, although Buzzwole has high HP, due to its subpar Special Defense it is unable to tank attacks from common metagame threats, such as Hyper Beam from Porygon-Z, Hydro Cannon from Greninja, and Clangorous Soulblaze from Kommo-o. Another one of Buzzwole's main drawbacks is its weakness to commonly used offensive types such as Fire, Fairy, and Flying, meaning it's vulnerable to threats such as Charizard, Tapu Lele, Primarina, and Supersonic Skystrike Landorus-T. Buzzwole also struggles against Pokemon that can exploit its low speed, such as Whimsicott and Smeargle, which can cripple it with Leech Seed or Spore before it can fight back.
