Strategy Overview
Frogadier possesses one of the greatest abilities in the game in Protean, which gives it STAB on any move it uses, making it a powerful wallbreaker. It's a very versatile Pokemon thanks to its high base Speed that allows it to outpace base 95 Speed Pokemon such as Haunter and Jynx and its diverse movepool that allows it to hit most of the tier for at least neutral damage. Frogadier's great movepool isn't limited to attacks, as it is one of the fastest and most viable Pokemon that can set up Toxic Spikes; as it forces switches, it can set up one layer with ease, and one of the common entry hazard control Pokemon in Xatu has a hard time switching in, as it's threatened by a Protean Ice Beam. Despite its multiple STAB moves, Frogadier's average Special Attack holds it back. Its poor defenses also make it so frail that it cannot take even resisted hits, and its lack of immunities leaves it with no opportunities to switch in; on top of that, it's easy to revenge kill. It faces competition as a special Water-type wallbreaker from Samurott, which is bulkier and more powerful but not as fast as Frogadier is. Frogadier also faces competition from other wallbreakers such as Magmortar and Samurott.
