Strategy Overview
Ferroseed has a unique defensive typing that gives it nine resistances and one immunity, as well as Eviolite-boosted defenses to complement them, allowing it to check a multitude of threats in NU such as Samurott, Kabutops, and Ludicolo. Ferroseed also serves as a reliable entry hazard setter thanks to its typing and access to both Spikes and Stealth Rock. Ferroseed's ability, Iron Barbs, allows it to punish physical attackers such as Scyther and Barbaracle. Its low Speed also works in its favor, powering up Gyro Ball against fast threats. However, Ferroseed has a crippling 4x weakness to common Fire-type moves as well as a 2x weakness to Fighting. Both of these weaknesses make Ferroseed easy to lure, as many Pokemon have access to Fire- and Fighting-type coverage. Ferroseed also relies on Leech Seed to recover from damage, which hinders its walling capabilities. Its STAB types are also commonly resisted, allowing many Pokemon to take advantage of it, most notably Substitute users.
