Strategy Overview

Chansey is the best specially defensive wall in the metagame thanks to its great HP and Eviolite-boosted Special Defense. It forms one of the most powerful defensive cores with Porygon2, helping it fit onto almost any balance Normal team. Access to Soft-Boiled and Natural Cure easily keeps Chansey healthy and makes it incredibly difficult to chip down. Chansey is also the only reliable entry hazard user for balance teams, as it's able to set up the all-important Stealth Rock. In addition to this, Chansey can use many forms of utility: it can flexibly use either Thunder Wave or Toxic to support the team as it is needed. With Eviolite, Chansey actually still has acceptable physical bulk. However, this makes Chansey very reliant on Eviolite, and it can be completely crippled without it. Strong physical attackers such as Choice Band Dragonite are also much too powerful for it to stop, even with Eviolite's defensive boosts. Stallbreakers and Taunt users such as Mew and Sableye can easily beat Chansey, as it is very passive outside of its use of Seismic Toss and a potential status move.
