Strategy Overview

Thanks to its enormous Defense and unique ability Mummy, Cofagrigus can easily spread burns and potentially cripple common Fighting-types like Machamp, Bewear, and Toxicroak and Pokemon that rely on their abilities like Tyrantrum, Araquanid, and Slurpuff. Unfortunately, that's where the positive traits end with Cofagrigus. It is easily shut down by Taunt users such as Mandibuzz because of its low Speed, it is heavily worn down by status conditions and strong attacks, it has a low HP stat that does not complement its defenses, it lacks recovery besides the unreliable Pain Split, and it is overall just extremely passive. Other Pokemon such as Necrozma, Slowbro, and Cresselia are stronger options to deter Fighting-types thanks to their access to reliable recovery, better stats all around, way less passive field presence, and stronger utility options outside of checking Fighting-types.
