Strategy Overview

Registeel is an excellent mixed wall and Stealth Rock setter, capable of standing firm in the face of many attackers throughout the game and keeping up entry hazards. IronPress allows Registeel to turn into an offensive threat while walling any physical attacker, letting it set up against a myriad of foes like Mimikyu and Bisharp, while Thunder Wave can cripple Pokemon like Armarouge and Basculegion-F. Registeel's typing allows it to check the Fairy-, Poison-, and Dragon-types in the tier like Gardevoir, Gengar, and Cyclizar with ease, while its incredible bulk allows it to take neutral attacks from Empoleon and Gengar. However, Registeel lacks reliable recovery, relying on the meager healing of Leftovers, which means that it can be chipped down across the game by hazards and is vulnerable to item removal like Knock Off. Pokemon that defeat Registeel, like Mienshao, Entei, and Suicune, are all very common in the metagame. Registeel also poses very little threat to the Ghost- and Psychic-type Pokemon that shrug off Body Press, like Basculegion-F and Slowbro, granting them easy entry points. In addition, Registeel's ability to keep Stealth Rock up is hindered by its matchup against common hazard removers, as it does not want to switch into Cyclizar's Knock Off or Talonflame's Will-O-Wisp.
