Strategy Overview
Pelipper's decent physical bulk and access to Roost make it a good check to many physical attackers in the tier like physical Floatzel, Monferno, and Pawniard. Pelipper is also a decently reliable entry hazard remover, with its access to Defog and reliable recovery in Roost. A decent defensive typing in Water / Flying lets Pelipper resist Water- and Fire-type moves, some of the more common types in the metagame. Pelipper faces competition from other Defog users, such as Swanna, Lumineon, Vullaby, and Prinplup. However, due to Pelipper's bulk, ability to be a better Monferno check, and reliable recovery, it differentiates itself from these other Pokemon. Unfortunately, Pelipper is easily worn down by status and Stealth Rock, the latter of which it is weak to. This pressures it to go for Roost instead of Defog. It is also very passive, so setup sweepers can set up on it fairly easily. In addition, Pelipper is also easily pressured, which makes its weakness to Stealth Rock worse because it is forced to switch out often. Pelipper's subpar Speed means that it has less opportunities to use Defog and Roost.
