Strategy Overview

Golem is one of the most reliable Stealth Rock setters in the tier thanks to Sturdy, which allows it to withstand at least one attack, guaranteeing an entry hazard set. While it faces competition from the plethora of other Stealth Rock setters in the tier, its higher offensive presence, ability to run two separate effective sets, and strong STAB combination give it a solid niche. It can also make up for its poor Speed with either Sucker Punch or Custap Berry, and it has solid defensive typing to check common threats such as Stoutland and Dodrio. However, it has a slew of weaknesses, including double weaknesses to Water- and Grass-type moves. Its offensive presence is limited by the number of bulky Pokemon in the metagame, especially Water- and Grass-types. It also has no reliable forms of recovery, meaning it can't act as a physical wall and switch repeatedly into attacks.
