Strategy Overview

Seismitoad's fantastic defensive typing that gives it a plethora of resistances, an Electric immunity, and only a single weakness lets it check Pokemon like Barbaracle, Metagross, Zygarde-10%, and Arcanine, giving it a niche in RarelyUsed. Furthermore, Seismitoad's decent matchup against the best entry hazard removal Pokemon, notably Donphan and Mega Blastoise, gives it an edge over other defensive Stealth Rock users like Bronzong. Seismitoad's great movepool gives it the option to run great utility moves like Knock Off, Refresh, and Protect. However, a lack of reliable recovery leaves Seismitoad susceptible to chip damage, meaning that it'll struggle heavily to check offensive Pokemon as the game progresses. Seismitoad's somewhat mediocre bulk and lack of recovery mean that it'll likely be dropped in favor of better Water-types like Slowbro and Mantine that have those those traits and other options like greater coverage for the former and Defog for the latter. Because of this, Seismitoad is most commonly seen on teams that need to compress their Stealth Rock user and Water-type into one Pokemon.
