Strategy Overview

Electric

Mega Manectric is one of the best offensive pivots available to Electric-type teams, along with Tapu Koko, featuring blazing fast Speed that allows it to outrun nearly the entire unboosted metagame. It has access to Volt Switch, enabling Mega Manectric to act as a fast pivot to bring in its defensive teammates. Using Mega Manectric takes the pressure off Tapu Koko to act as an offensive pivot, allowing it to run U-turn to more readily switch out of opposing Pokemon, including Ground-types. Mega Manectric's coverage combination of Overheat and Hidden Power Ice also allows Tapu Koko to utilize Grass Knot, which it typically cannot afford to run. Mega Manectric takes advantage of its strong Fire-type coverage to heavily threaten opposing Grass-types such as Ferrothorn and Tapu Bulu, which can otherwise be very tricky to deal with. Its ability, Intimidate, allows Mega Manectric to take on physical attackers more readily, notably surviving attacks such as Wood Hammer from Tapu Bulu. Intimidate also further bolsters its ability to bring in teammates, like Zapdos, by weakening physical attackers. Still, Mega Manectric's lackluster bulk makes it very vulnerable to most attackers, and it can be very quickly worn down from entry hazards through the course of the battle. It also often competes to fill the same teamslot with Pokemon such as Magnezone, Thundurus, and Xurkitree, each of which fill a different offensive niche for the team, handling different matchups more effectively.
