Strategy Overview

Lurantis is a good utility choice for teams with its decent defensive typing, good support options, access to the ability Contrary and most importantly access to Defog. A pure Grass typing, decent mixed defenses and Aromatherapy allows Lurantis to consistently switch into the majority of the hazard setters in the tier, including the most popular choices in Regirock, Mudsdale and Torterra, and clear their entry hazards. A pure Grass-typing also allows Lurantis to switch into Ground- and Water-type attacks from the likes of Alolan Dugtrio and Floatzel without much trouble, sponging attacks for teammates. On top of all of that, Lurantis is not as passive as most other Defog users, as it is capable of boosting its stats with Leaf Storm and Superpower through Contrary. However, Lurantis faces strong competition from other hazard removers with more utility, such as Skuntank, who is immune to Psychic-type moves and absorbs Toxic Spikes, or Hitmonchan, who boasts a superior Speed stat and can check special attackers like Cryogonal and Simisear. Lurantis also struggles with weaknesses to common attacking types, such as Fire and Flying from threats like Simisear and Oricorio-G, as well as reliance on low-PP moves like Leaf Storm and Aromatherapy.
