Strategy Overview

Krookodile is an excellent physically bulky threat in the 1v1 metagame. Its defensive capabilities allow it to tank and power through a surprising list of common threats, such as Mega Lopunny, Mega Mawile, Heatran, and Mega Charizard X. Alongside this, Krookodile also can tackle opposing stall Pokemon, using the combination of Taunt and Rock Tomb to shut down Pokemon like Type: Null, Jumpluff, and defensive Deoxys-S. Unfortunately, Krookodile cannot operate as effectively against special attackers and will go down easily if hit by a powerful special attack, falling to the likes of Tapu Lele, Greninja, Meloetta, and Porygon-Z. Additionally, Krookodile is forced to heavily invest in Defense to be viable, leaving its respectable base 92 Speed stat mostly underutilized, and thus it falls prey to faster foes that can take advantage of it before it can react, such as sleep users like Smeargle and Breloom, bulky Flying-type Pokemon like Dragonite, Mega Gyarados before Mega Evolution, and Landorus-T, and faces mind games against faster opposing bulky setup sweepers, like Groundium Z Garchomp and the rare speedy Zygarde.
