Strategy Overview

Camerupt is a niche wallbreaker that can make use of its great STAB combination, high Special Attack, and access to Eruption to power through bulky teams. Camerupt's typing also gives it a unique set of resistances and allows it to pivot into Pokemon like Eelektross and Ferroseed in order to apply offensive pressure. However, Camerupt's poor bulk and awful Speed limit its wallbreaking opportunities against offensive teams, leaving it easily revenge killed by Pokemon such as Stoutland and Primeape, and even weaker attackers like Cryogonal can pressure it. Furthermore, Camerupt faces immense competition from special wallbreakers like Aurorus and Victreebel, which offer more spammable attacks or greater Speed. Camerupt also contests with Simisear and Combusken as Fire-types due to their far better Speed tiers and access to setup moves, making them more effective against most playstyles, and Taunt variations of Simisear also possess a solid matchup against stall teams.
