Strategy Overview
Mega Camerupt is blessed with a unique typing that gives it a small niche as a pivot into Volt Switch users like Magearna, Tapu Koko, and Zapdos that other Ground-types may struggle to switch into for fear of their Ice-type coverage and the former two's STAB Fairy-type attacks. Mega Camerupt's offensive STAB combination gives very little in the way of defensive switch-ins, mainly limited to Chansey and Ground-immune Fire-resistant Pokemon like Mega Latias and Rotom-W. Mega Camerupt's typing is a double-edged sword with a weakness to Ground and a 4x weakness to Water-type moves. Even weak Water-type attacks from defensive Pokemon like Toxapex and Tapu Fini can threaten to dispatch Mega Camerupt, as well as hard hitters like Mega Swampert, Crawdaunt, and Ash Greninja; the latter two can even remove Mega Camerupt while Trick Room is up through priority attacks. Despite Mega Camerupt's positive matchups against many Fire-, Fairy-, and Electric-types, its bulk is nowhere near infallible, and it lacks recovery, meaning it can find it difficult to get in safely.
