Strategy Overview
Bibarel stands out among the plethora of Normal-types in ZU thanks to its unique combination of Simple and Swords Dance raising its Attack by 4 stages in one turn. After such a boost, Bibarel's defensive checks are very limited, and it is able to break through common physical walls such as Torterra and Mareanie. Thanks to its Water typing, Bibarel can break through common Normal-type checks such as Golem and Bronzor. Furthermore, due to the infrequence of faster, Normal-resistant Pokemon, a boosted Bibarel is able to clean late-game with a strong priority move in Quick Attack. However, Bibarel's stats are average at best. Its low initial power means it requires a boost from Swords Dance before becoming threatening. Additionally, Bibarel struggles to find setup opportunities when screens are not on the field due to its mediocre bulk and lack of useful resistances. Most offensive Pokemon such as Komala and Floatzel can OHKO it with their STAB moves and super effective coverage moves. Additionally, its Speed is not high enough to outspeed some very common Pokemon such as Silvally and its different formes and Rotom-S, which also avoid the OHKO from a boosted Quick Attack. Because of these flaws, Bibarel is mostly seen on Sticky Web and dual screens offense with the support of Shuckle and Electrode.
