Strategy Overview

Sylveon distinguishes itself as a prominent Fairy-type, punishing attackers like Guzzlord, Passimian, and Scrafty. Sylveon's defensive set also has enough natural special bulk to prevent Inteleon and Life Orb Starmie from breaking through it. Its Wish and Heal Bell support is also relevant, as many Pokemon that form good defensive cores with Sylveon, like Copperajah and Guzzlord, lack reliable recovery themselves. When it opts for Choice Specs, Sylveon is a potent wallbreaker that lures in checks like Copperajah and Salazzle to dent them with Mystical Fire and Psyshock. However, Sylveon will still struggle against Steel- and Poison-types like Copperajah, Escavalier, and Vileplume when locked into Hyper Voice or when it lacks coverage. Defensive Sylveon's passivity and reliance on Protect to secure its recovery can also let in wallbreakers and setup sweepers like Toxicroak, Silvally-Ground, and Exploud. Physical wallbreakers like Drapion, Tyrantrum, and Tauros outpace and carry strong coverage for Sylveon, making it ineffective if they have a setup opportunity or predict it switching in.
