Strategy Overview

Quagsire possesses a unique niche in the UU metagame with its ability in Unaware, which lets it stop setup sweepers such as Nasty Plot Thundurus-T, Swords Dance Scizor, and Dragon Dance Salamence in their tracks. A Water / Ground typing allows Quagsire to act as a Volt Switch absorber while also checking Pokemon such as Rotom-H and Lycanroc-D. As such, these attributes make Quagsire a staple on stall teams. However, Quagsire's 4x weakness to Grass makes it unable to check Pokemon such as Nihilego, Gyarados and pivot Thundurus-T, as they commonly carry Grass-type coverage. Quagsire's bulk only goes so far, as very strong wallbreakers such as Crawdaunt and Azumarill can break through it with minimal effort. Finally, Quagsire's poor special bulk leaves it unable to take on special attackers well, leaving it vulnerable to Pokemon such as Keldeo.
