Strategy Overview
Gifted with great mixed attacking stats and a boosting move in Swords Dance, Samurott is a versatile threat capable of being either a powerful wallbreaker with nuclear Hydro Pumps or one of the best sweepers in the metagame. Samurott also boasts a solid typing, defensively and offensively, backed by acceptable defenses for an offensive Pokemon, letting it check Fire-, Ground-, and Rock-types such as Pyroar, Rhydon, and Archeops. STAB priority in Aqua Jet is the cherry on top, allowing Samurott to clean weakened teams after a Swords Dance boost and revenge kill faster Pokemon throughout the game. Unfortunately, Samurott is relatively slow, leaving it outsped by most offensive Pokemon and, accordingly, overreliant on Aqua Jet and vulnerable to getting revenge killed. Moreover, Samurott is checked by common Grass- and Water-types such as Vileplume, Ludicolo, Lanturn, and Poliwrath, in addition to physically bulky Pokemon such as Weezing and Garbodor if running the physical set and specially bulky Pokemon such as Hariyama and Mega Audino if running the special set.
