Strategy Overview
Celebi's well-rounded base stat distribution makes it a solid option for offensive teams, defensive teams, and even balanced teams, and its vast movepool with great coverage options for its offensive sets and fantastic utility options for its supportive sets grants it extreme versatility. Celebi also has a useful ability in Natural Cure, allowing it to heal itself of status upon switching out. Celebi is one of the best checks to bulky Water-types because it is able to set up faster than them and has Natural Cure to heal off burns from Scald. Thanks to its bulk, Celebi often gets multiple opportunities to set up as well. Furthermore, Celebi has a great matchup against most other Stealth Rock setters, as well as entry hazard removers, due to its speed, typing, and coverage. However, despite Celebi's many coverage options, it will always get walled by at least one Pokemon, depending on its moveset. Celebi also struggles to take on many faster Pokemon and Choice Scarf users. It is weak to seven different typings, including some that are offensively dominant in UU such as Fire, Ice, and Dark. It notably takes super effective damage from some of UU's most common priority moves in Ice Shard, Sucker Punch, and Shadow Sneak. The weakness to Dark also makes Celebi more vulnerable to being Pursuit trapped. Lastly, Celebi is extremely weak to Bug, allowing many faster Pokemon with U-turn to easily take advantage of it.
