Starly's Speed, while acceptable, is not enough to compensate for its poor defensive stats and reliance on recoil moves that leave it exceedingly frail. Although it has coverage options in Hidden Power Grass and Heat Wave, Starly's horrid Special Attack renders these moves ineffective and non-threatening. Furthermore, a weakness to Stealth Rock hurts Starly's already low longevity. For these reasons, a myriad of Flying-types all outclass Starly: Doduo possesses higher Speed and Attack stats and Vullaby provides defensive utility or better offensive presence with its well-rounded stats and movepool.
