Boasting high Attack and Speed, Mega Sharpedo is a staple sweeper on many Dark teams. It has Speed Boost before Mega Evolving, which allows it to sweep teams late-game, and it has Strong Jaw after Mega Evolving to make STAB Crunch hit incredibly hard. Mega Sharpedo has access to useful coverage moves such as Ice Fang and Psychic Fangs that are also boosted by Strong Jaw and hit its checks like Hydreigon and Keldeo. It works best on hyper offensive teams because it benefits a lot from the pressure and momentum its teammates employ on other threats. However, Mega Sharpedo requires the opposing team to be weakened for a successful sweep. It also needs boosts from Speed Boost, which requires it to run Protect, meaning that Sharpedo loses out on a necessary coverage move. It is quite frail and has difficulty taking even resisted attacks. Finally, status effects like paralysis and burn can easily prevent Mega Sharpedo from sweeping.

Water

Mega Sharpedo has an amazing matchup against Psychic, one of the best types, and is able to act as a late-game sweeper thanks to Speed Boost before Mega Evolving. It also has great offensive stats and Strong Jaw after Mega Evolving. An unresisted dual STAB combination, coverage moves like Psychic Fangs and Ice Fang boosted by Strong Jaw, and exceptional offensive stats allow Mega Sharpedo to double as a wallbreaker. A good Speed tier after Mega Evolving lets it come in and revenge kill Pokemon like Swords Dance Garchomp without boosting its Speed. However, a mediocre defensive typing and below-average bulk prevent Mega Sharpedo from coming in on even weak attacks, limiting its opportunity to switch in. Being forced to run Protect has positives, like being able to scout, but is mostly outweighed by negatives, mainly not being able to run another coverage move. Mega Sharpedo having a crippling weakness to every type of status severely hinders its effectiveness as well. Mega Sharpedo is also mostly limited to late-game because after Mega Evolving, it doesn't have access to Speed Boost, which handicaps its cleaning potential.
