Strategy Overview
Metang is a solid pick for a Stealth Rock setter, with its main attribute being its great defensive typing that allows it to serve as a decent check for various relevant threats such as Jynx, Stoutland, Aurorus, and Dodrio. However, it is very reliant on its Eviolite to shore up its only average defenses. The rest of Metang's stats are mediocre, with its somewhat underwhelming Attack and low Speed leaving it with little offensive presence against foes it does not have coverage for. Metang's lack of recovery causes it to be worn down easily, which limits its ability to switch into multiple foes throughout the match. This is furthered by Metang's weakness to common coverage moves from various Pokemon it switches into such as Kangaskhan's Earthquake and Aurorus's Earth Power. Finally, Metang faces competition as a Stealth Rock setter from Pokemon like Regirock, Mudsdale, and Alolan Sandslash, which all have various unique attributes and don't depend on Eviolite for their bulk, allowing them to run other items like Leftovers.
