Magneton

Magneton has a niche in the 1v1 metagame over its evolved counterpart Magnezone due to its ability to outspeed Adamant variants of Mega Gyarados at maximum Speed, which is one of the best Pokemon in the tier and does not utilize a Jolly nature in high levels of play the majority of the time. It retains the fantastic Electric / Steel typing that gives it a large number of resistances. Due to its ability Sturdy, it is able to survive any hit from full HP, allowing it to fire off a powerful Gigavolt Havoc that beats Pokemon such as Mega Charizard Y, Kartana, Porygon-Z, and Crustle. Magneton can also utilize its Z-Move in combination with Metal Sound in order to KO bulkier threats such as Tapu Lele, Magearna, and bulky Meloetta and has access to Electroweb in order to outspeed Pokemon such as Mega Gardevoir. Magneton also serves as a viable answer to the plethora of Water-types that are viable in the 1v1 metagame such as Manaphy, Primarina, and Tapu Fini, utilizing Gigavolt Havoc to KO them. However, despite the fact that Magneton is able to tank almost any single hit and fire off a powerful attack in return, it has trouble versus Pokemon that are able to KO it before it is able to do much to them, such as bulky variants of Mega Metagross, Dragonite, and Mega Charizard X and Ground-types that are simply immune to its moves such as Landorus-T, Donphan, Golem, Excadrill, and Zygarde. Unlike its evolved counterpart, Magnezone, it is unable to learn Mirror Coat, which is the reason why it has trouble versus Pokemon such as Naganadel and Choice Scarf variants of Tapu Lele. It also has lower Special Attack than Magnezone, which prevents it from getting an OHKO on Landorus-T.
