Strategy Overview

Froslass holds a notable niche as a lead on hyper offense teams thanks to its useful utility options such as Icy Wind and Destiny Bond in tandem with its blistering base 110 Speed. Froslass also possesses Taunt and the ability to spinblock, allowing it to stop entry hazard removers such as Empoleon and Tentacruel, as well as prevent the opposing team from setting up their own entry hazards, giving Froslass an edge in many situations. Unfortunately, Froslass is quite frail, meaning that numerous powerful attackers like Scizor, Zeraora, and Choice Scarf Hydreigon are able to outpace and KO it if its Focus Sash is broken. Furthermore, Froslass is quite weak outside of hitting certain targets super effectively, meaning it isn't very threatening offensively. Froslass faces competition from Klefki and Chesnaught as a user of Spikes, as their better defensive traits grant them more opportunities to set up entry hazards throughout a match, and Klefki also has priority Spikes, which ensures that it will almost always set a layer before going down. Thus, Froslass's defensive limitations relegate its use strictly to hyper offense teams. As a suicide lead, Froslass also has to compete with Azelf, which possesses higher Speed and greater offensive stats, allowing it to wear down the opposing team much more effectively.
