Strategy Overview
Normal
Chansey is one of the best walls in Monotype, and it is mandatory on balanced Normal-type teams because of the roles it provides. It has Eviolite to boost its bulk, Natural Cure to act as a status sponge, Soft-Boiled for reliable recovery, and access to useful utility moves such as Stealth Rock, Toxic, and Thunder Wave. Chansey forms potentially the best defensive core in the metagame with Porygon2 and Staraptor; this core is further supported by Ditto and strong priority users like Diggersby that prevent most forms of offensive counterplay. Unfortunately, Chansey saps any momentum due to its cripplingly low Speed and nonexistent offensive presence. It's also susceptible to stallbreakers such as Mew and is reliant on Eviolite, which means it'll be disadvantaged by Knock Off users like Bisharp and Trick users like Latios. Chansey's lack of an offensive presence causes it to be setup bait for Pokemon like Taunt Gyarados and Refresh Mega Altaria. Defensive Pokemon that Chansey struggles to break, such as Toxapex and Ferrothorn, can also freely set entry hazards against it.
