Strategy Overview

Water

Providing a key immunity to Electric-type moves as well as walling Pokemon such as Regieleki, defensive Zapdos, and Zeraora, Swampert is a good addition to any Water team. In addition, Swampert has access to a wide variety of utility moves, including Stealth Rock and Roar. It is also able to take hits in order to reliably set Stealth Rock multiple times during a battle. Its Water / Ground typing may turn out to be its eventual downfall, as Swampert is 4x weak to Grass-type attacks from Rillaboom, Tapu Koko, and Thundurus-T. Swampert suffers from constantly tanking hits from foes due to having no reliable recovery and therefore has little longevity. This prevents it from switching in and out of battle constantly, making Defog users a nuisance. Swampert can generate momentum with Flip Turn, preventing it from becoming passive.
