Strategy Overview
Slowking's useful resistances, excellent ability in Regenerator, and superb natural bulk make it one of the best defensive pivots in the metagame. These traits, combined with Teleport, allow Slowking to consistently force progress against many teams by allowing wallbreakers such as Thundurus-T and Zygarde-10% to enter the field safely. Due to its incredible bulk and typing, Slowking can easily come in on threats like Keldeo, Cobalion, Celesteela, Excadrill, and Nihilego and then pivot to a revenge killer with Teleport. However, as a result of its somewhat below average physical defense, Slowking is unable to consistently wall strong physical attackers such as Conkeldurr and Swords Dance Excadrill. Slowking also gets forced out by threats such as Zarude, Hydreigon, and Thundurus-T quite easily due to its initial passivity and can get overwhelmed by status from Pokemon it checks like Toxic from Moltres and Sludge Bomb poisons from Nihilego. Slowking's typing also holds it back, as it is weak to U-turn as well as Knock Off. Slowking competes with Chansey for the role of a defensive pivot, as Chansey isn't weak to foes such as Hydreigon. Slowking also competes with Primarina, which has a better defensive typing and a better matchup against Hydreigon.
