Strategy Overview
Golurk has made a name for itself in RU as a fearsome wallbreaker with no true counters due its high Attack stat and powerful coverage moves, especially its Poltergeist. Unlike other Ghost-types such as Chandelure and Decidueye, Golurk easily breaks through common Ghost-resistant and -immune foes like Umbreon, Incineroar, and Snorlax with Close Combat and Earthquake. Even though Golurk is not a fast Pokemon, it is still fast enough to outspeed common defensive threats such as Reuniclus, Registeel, and Diancie. Nevertheless, Golurk's low Speed and weaknesses to common offensive typings such as Grass, Water, and Ghost make it struggle to find switch-in opportunities, and it is easily revenge killed by faster threats such as Roserade, Xurkitree, and Chandelure. Golurk also struggles against potential itemless Pokemon such as Flygon and Xatu due to Poltergeist failing against them. This complicates the teambuilding process due to its incompatibility with Knock Off users. Golurk faces competition from other Ghost- and Ground-types such as Chandelure, Dhelmise, and Flygon, as they are either faster, easier to integrate into the team, or provide more utility. Unlike other Ground-types, Golurk is unable to check common Electric-types like Raikou and Xurkitree due to their super effective coverage moves and higher Speed.
