Strategy Overview
Aurorus carves itself a niche as a powerful Ice-type wallbreaker with coverage for a majority of the tier. With two great offensive abilities, it can fire off accurate Blizzards with Snow Warning or powerful Hyper Voices with Refrigerate. Earth Power lets it hit annoying Steel- and Rock-types like Doublade and Aggron, while Freeze-Dry blasts through bulky Water-types like Wishiwashi and Lanturn. Solid bulk also gives it surprising defensive utility despite its poor defensive typing, letting it take a neutral hit or two from Pokemon like Charizard and Vikavolt, OHKOing them in return. Meteor Beam adds another layer to Aurorus's wallbreaking capability, allowing it to switch moves while still having power behind it. However, Aurous is slow and relatively frail, hindering its ability to come in without pivot support. It also has a Stealth Rock weakness, making it quickly worn down by entry hazards. Finally, blanket special walls like Audino, Ferroseed, Gigalith, and Articuno can pivot into it and either use Toxic or hit it for super effective damage.
