Strategy Overview

Talonflame's role in NU is a fast pivot that can revenge kill offensive threats like Inteleon, Starmie, and Salazzle. Additionally, using Flame Body, it can fish for a burn by switching into resisted physical attackers from foes such as Copperajah, Tauros, and Silvally-Ground. Sadly, since Water-types like Mantine and Vaporeon are common, it can be tough for Talonflame to do its job. It's also not a great Fighting-type check, since Toxicroak can nearly OHKO it on the switch with Gunk Shot, whereas Passimian can remove its Heavy-Duty Boots with Knock Off or KO it with Rock Slide. Additionally, it's not a strong attacker and as a result can struggle to revenge kill at times.
