Strategy Overview

Nidoqueen is a capable entry hazard setter in UU thanks to its offensive potency with Sheer Force and Life Orb, being able to threaten a multitude of UU staples including Hippowdon, Tangrowth, Primarina, and Scizor. Its solid defensive typing also lets it check Pokemon such as Nihilego and Cobalion lacking Iron Head and discourage common Electric-types such as Rotom-H from using Volt Switch. However, Nidoqueen can struggle to pivot into Electric-types like Raikou and Thundurus-T that commonly carry super-effective coverage to break through it. Unfortunately, Nidoqueen's overreliance on its Life Orb leaves it susceptible to Knock Off from Pokemon it would pivot into like Nihilego. A low Speed stat gives Nidoqueen an undesirable matchup versus faster-paced teams, and although Nidoqueen sports a quality defensive typing, it is still weak to common Pokemon in the tier such as Mamoswine and Keldeo. These struggles sting a bit more because Nidoqueen has no form of reliable recovery, meaning it is worn down pretty quickly throughout a match. Nidoqueen typically faces competition from Hippowdon and Nihilego as Stealth Rock setters thanks to the former's greater bulk and reliable recovery and the latter's greater Speed.
