Strategy Overview
Garbodor is a passable Spikes user in PU thanks to several unique qualities. For one, its good physical bulk allows it to handle dangerous attackers such as Sneasel and Centiskorch and punish them with Rocky Helmet and Aftermath, while a pure Poison typing lets Garbodor naturally check common Grass- and Fairy-types like Ribombee, Eldegoss, and Whimsicott. Garbodor sets itself apart from Weezing as a defensive Poison-type with Spikes and an overall greater offensive presence, courtesy of its better Speed, stronger attacks, and potential disruptive tools in Toxic Spikes and Corrosive Gas, which lets it slot into fast-paced teams. However, Garbodor is walled by several common Pokemon that resist Gunk Shot and shrug off Stomping Tantrum, such as Jellicent, Archeops, and especially Sandslash, which can threaten it with Earthquake and remove its entry hazards with little issue. Furthermore, Garbodor's lackluster special bulk leaves it vulnerable to powerful special attackers such as Charizard and Wishiwashi. Garbodor also faces immense competition as a Spikes user on offensive teams from Qwilfish and Froslass, as the former is a better pivot thanks to its superior typing, ability, and utility options, while the latter can utilize its Ghost typing and Speed to lay down Spikes nearly unopposed.
