Strategy Overview
Virizion's STAB combination and useful coverage let it threaten common defensive cores, making it surprisingly difficult to pivot around. Its fantastic natural special bulk shouldn't be ignored either, as it lets Virizion switch into Heliolisk and bulky Water-types such as Gastrodon and Vaporeon, potentially letting it safely set up. Its Speed tier gives it an advantage on premier Pokemon like Silvally-Ground, Toxicroak, and non-Choice Scarf Rotom-C, but it remains slower than other staples like Talonflame, Salazzle, and Tauros. Despite its offensive coverage, its lackluster Attack stat often requires a turn to Swords Dance for it to break through most teams. Common checks such as Vileplume, Talonflame, and Salazzle can switch in against Virizion's STAB moves and force it to switch, thwarting a Swords Dance sweep. Virizion also faces strong competition with other Fighting-types like Toxicroak and Passimian that hit harder, as well as Grass-types like Tsareena, Rotom-C, and Dhelmise that offer more utility.
