Strategy Overview

Fairy

Togekiss has decent bulk, a good defensive typing that provides a Ground immunity, and access to Roost, which ensures it can keep itself healthy throughout the game and stick around as a valuable team member. A good Special Attack stat helps it deal decent damage, and with access to Aura Sphere and Fire Blast, Babiri Berry Togekiss can be a good emergency check to Steel-types such as Heatran, Ferrothorn, and Mega Scizor. Air Slash allows it to deal with Mega Venusaur, a Pokemon that Fairy teams struggle with because of its bulk and typing. However, Togekiss struggles to deal significant damage to some threats because its best set is focused on taking on Steel teams. Togekiss also struggles to beat Celesteela, which is being used more over Skarmory on Steel-type teams thanks to its special bulk. Furthermore, Togekiss has a hard time finding a slot on Fairy teams because Clefable fills a similar role and has access to Stealth Rock, better bulk, and the ability Magic Guard, which means it can serve as a status absorber and ignore hazards; therefore, with all these traits, it is often more useful than Togekiss in many matchups.

Flying

  • Choice Scarf Togekiss is able to outspeed and revenge kill a plethora of threats such as Infernape, Greninja, and Choice Scarf Tapu Bulu.
  • Togekiss has a solid movepool with good STAB attacks in Air Slash and Dazzling Gleam while also having great coverage options in Fire Blast and Aura Sphere to get past Steel-types.
  • It also has Serene Grace, which gives Air Slash a high chance to cause foes to flinch.
  • Togekiss also has support moves in Defog and Trick, which allow it to remove entry hazards and cripple special walls.
  • It also has decent natural bulk, which allows it to take most attacks at full health.
  • Togekiss's Fairy typing gives it a handy immunity to Dragon-type attacks while also giving it a helpful resistance to Dark-type attacks.
  • However, Togekiss may be fast, but it is still outsped by faster Choice Scarf users such as Victini, Latios, and Heracross.
  • Togekiss is not particularly powerful and also faces competition from Landorus-T as a Choice Scarf user.
  • Togekiss is also weak to Stealth Rock, which limits the number of times it can switch in.
