Strategy Overview

Roggenrola might seem appealing as a switch-in to Brave Bird and Flying-types with its high Defense and ability to then force them out after a Weak Armor boost to set up Stealth Rock, but Onix performs the exact same role much more effectively. Other than having a lower Attack stat, Onix has far superior Speed, better defenses, a better movepool, and a Ground typing that lets it switch in on pivoting Volt Switch users and deal significant damage to Fighting-types with STAB Earthquake. Roggenrola falls flat against any decently fast special attacker and cannot outspeed most Choice Scarf users even after a Weak Armor boost.
