Strategy Overview

Water

With its ability Unaware coupled with its decent physical bulk and reliable recovery, Quagsire is able to check a variety of setup sweepers such as Mega Scizor, Bisharp, and Mega Charizard X specifically for stall Water teams. Quagsire's Ground typing allows it to serve as an Electric immunity, thereby checking threatening Pokemon such as Zeraora, Magnezone, and Alolan Golem. However, its Ground typing also compounds its weakness to Grass-type moves. Because of this, it cannot check Grass-type setup sweepers such as Tapu Bulu, Breloom, and Celebi. Furthermore, despite having decent physical bulk, Quagsire's lackluster special bulk makes it unable to consistently check special setup sweepers such as Volcarona, Latios, and Mew. Quagsire is outclassed by other Electric immunities outside of stall teams, namely Swampert, which can set Stealth Rock, and Gastrodon with its fantastic special bulk, which can check big threats such as Choice Specs Tapu Koko and Kyurem-B for the team.
