Blacephalon

Fireworks Pokémon

FireGhost

It slithers toward people. Then, without warning, it triggers the explosion of its own head. It’s apparently one kind of Ultra Beast.

Strategy Overview

  • Blacephalon is blessed with a huge Special Attack stat and a very powerful signature move in Mind Blown, allowing it to do significant damage to many Pokemon in the metagame.

  • It also has a useful Speed stat, sitting just above Adamant Mega Salamence, allowing it to net easy KOs with Hidden Power Ice.

  • Although it faces competition with Chandelure due to their shared typing, Blacephalon functions as a better Z-Move and Choice Scarf user. However, its lack of Flash Fire leaves it more susceptible to Mega Blaziken.

  • Poor defensive stats and a Ghost typing make Blacephalon susceptible to being revenge killed, especially by Shadow Sneak users such as Mimikyu and Aegislash.

  • A lackluster movepool leaves Blacephalon with few offensive options outside STAB moves and Hidden Power. It notably lacks Solar Beam, which is one of the best options for offensive Fire-types.

  • A major restriction for Blacephalon is that Hidden Power Fighting is unobtainable, due to legendary Pokemon coming with a guaranteed 31 IVs in 3 stats. This means Blacephalon has no way of actually hurting Tyranitar, which is very common in the metagame.
