Strategy Overview

Amoonguss's good defensive typing and mixed bulk make it a reliable defensive pivot. Key resistances to Grass, Electric, Water, Fairy, and Fighting enable it to check a large number of threats such as Primarina, Mega Altaria, and Zeraora, giving it a place on many balanced and bulky offensive teams. Amoonguss is able to do this reliably because of Regenerator, which gives it one-third of its maximum health upon switching out, making it hard to wear down. Another fantastic trait of Amoonguss is Spore, which lets it inflict guaranteed sleep on non-Grass-types. Despite Amoonguss's strengths, however, it possesses crippling weaknesses to Ice, Fire, Psychic, and Flying, which is amplified by the strong presence of Pokemon such as Mega Aerodactyl, Mamoswine, Moltres, and Latias. Amoonguss is also very passive because of its pitiful Speed stat and low offenses, which can make it setup fodder after Spore's been used.
