Slowking finds stiff competition from Slowbro, which is the far superior physical wall that can be a potential wincon with Iron Defense + Body Press. Additionally, Psychic teams greatly wish to have more offensive teammates, which creates issues with fitting Slowking onto these builds. However, Slowking's access to Chilly Reception can enable this offense, which is desirable.

Water

Slowking finds a niche as a special bulky pivot for Water teams. It allows free entrance for Water breakers life Urshifu-R while denying other weathers thanks to Chilly Reception. Future Sight into Chilly Reception creates a devastating delayed double attack when paired with a breaker, forcing the opponent to choose between sending out a Pokemon that resists the attacks of the breaker or one that resists Future Sight; the extra damage allows these breakers to obtain better ranges.. Slowking's excellent special bulk allows it to take a hit from full HP from special attackers like Choice Specs Flutter Mane, Spectrier, and Latios and paralyze them. However, it can become free setup fodder for threats like Raging Bolt, Iron Hands, and Dragapult. Moreover, Slowking struggles in this metagame composed mostly by physical attackers, especially because it's weak to two common moves in Knock Off and U-turn.
