Strategy Overview

  • Kommo-o is a strong setup sweeper thanks to its excellent defensive stats and access to STAB Body Press. Its defensive typing gives it critical resistances to the signature moves of both Urshifu formes, which ignore the Defense boosts from Iron Defense. With proper support, Kommo-o is capable of becoming extremely difficult to remove once it starts setting up Iron Defense, making it an extremely effective sweeper.

  • Kommo-o appreciates teammates that help it set up more easily. Incineroar and Amoonguss are great at this, with Incineroar being able to cycle Fake Out and Parting Shot, while Amoonguss provides Spore as well as redirection support. Both give Kommo-o turns to set up and more room to maneuver, and they also have strong defensive synergy with Kommo-o. Ting-Lu is another great partner, as it can whittle down foes with Ruination, and its ability Vessel of Ruin makes Kommo-o harder to remove.

  • Ironically, one of Kommo-o's biggest weaknesses is its typing. While its numerous resistances are valuable, namely into the Ogerpon and Urshifu formes, in exchange, it is weak to a whole host of common offensive types. Strong attackers such as Flutter Mane, Raging Bolt, and Chien-Pao hit Kommo-o for super effective damage, with the former two being special attackers and the latter using Sacred Sword, meaning they all ignore Iron Defense boosts. Kommo-o is often forced to Terastallize, and requires careful positioning around threats to conserve its HP for a late game sweep.
