Strategy Overview
Bug
Heracross finds a niche as a physical wallbreaker, leveraging its Fighting typing and Guts to alleviate Rock and Steel matchups while also dismantling Poison team cores with its combination of Swords Dance + Guts-boosted Facade; however, due to that same typing and its below average Speed, it struggles against common Fairy- and Psychic-types like Iron Valiant and Latios and is a less-than-ideal choice. Furthermore, Heracross faces direct competition for its role from Life Orb Slither Wing, which also has U-turn and has access to reliable recovery. Heracross is also outclassed by other physical attackers like Scizor and Lokix, both possessing crucial priority options, with Scizor also being more adept at handling Rock and Fairy teams. Lastly, Volcarona, with its Fire typing and access to Quiver Dance, serves as a powerful special wallbreaker, outclassing Heracross as an answer to Steel-types barring Heatran.
