Strategy Overview

Goodra carves out a unique niche thanks to its great utility and good set diversity. Goodra's great Special Defense and typing allow it to check special wallbreakers like Chandelure, Munkidori, and Inteleon. Goodra's solid utility movepool gives it a lot of options to support its team; Knock Off lets it pressure item-reliant Pokemon like Porygon2 and Incineroar, Toxic allows Goodra to cripple defensive foes like Gastrodon and Diancie, and Dragon Tail phazes setup sweepers like Oricorio-P and Toxtricity. Choice Specs makes Goodra a strong wallbreaker that can 2HKO the bulkiest foes that don't resist Dragon like Gastrodon and Alolan Muk after Stealth Rock damage. However, Goodra's average physical bulk makes it very easy to be revenge killed by physical attackers like Flygon, Toxicroak, and Flamigo. Steel- and Fairy-types like Bronzong, Diancie, and Scream Tail can take advantage of Choice Specs Goodra locking into its Dragon-type attacks, letting them set up or force it to switch. Furthermore, Goodra's middling Speed makes it easily revenge killed by faster Pokemon like Flamigo, Paldean Tauros-W, and Flygon. Goodra also lacks any reliable recovery, so its utility sets can be overwhelmed by repeated attacks.
