Strategy Overview

Gligar's phenomenal typing and utility make it an excellent Ground-type in NU, and it checks many physical wallbreakers like Flygon, Overqwil, and Toxicroak. Furthermore, it also excels on entry hazard-spam teams, as it has both Spikes and Stealth Rock. Many hazard stack teams appreciate Gligar's access to Knock Off allowing them to overwhelm foes with hazards. Immunity lets Gligar consistently switch in against foes that spread poison, like Alolan Muk, Toxicroak, and Overqwil. However, Gligar lacks any form of recovery, meaning many foes that it checks like Incineroar, Flygon, and Heracross can wear it down over a battle. Furthermore, Gligar often switches into Knock Off users such as Cinccino, Copperajah, and Incineroar that can reduce its effectiveness. Gligar's average Special Defense makes it worry about special wallbreakers like Toxtricity, Inteleon, and Chandelure, as they can either OHKO it or force it to switch out.
