Unlike the alternative Water-type immune option on Ground teams, Clodsire, Gastrodon is extremely weak to Grass-type moves from the likes of Meowscarada and Ogerpon formes; it also has inferior bulk and an arguably worse ability as opposed to Clodsire's Water Absorb. However, Gastrodon boasts a niche in beating Water-type Pokemon like Greninja and Barraskewda due to its neutrality to Ice Beam and Psychic Fangs, respectively, as well as its neutrality to Ground-type moves.
