Strategy Overview

Gardevoir graces RU with a strong offensive typing and good utility in Trace, Trick, and Healing Wish, making it one of the tier's premier Choice Scarf users. Very few Pokemon in the tier are able to come in on its STAB combination, and the few that do, like Registeel and Hisuian Goodra, often find themselves crippled by being given a Choice Scarf with Trick. Additionally, Gardevoir can give powerful teammates like Feraligatr, Mienshao, and Hisuian Goodra a second chance to break through teams with Healing Wish. However, Gardevoir's awkward natural Speed tier makes it heavily reliant on holding a Choice Scarf to outrun threats like Noivern and non-Choice Scarf Gengar, making it rather prediction-heavy. Its otherwise great offensive typing leaves it walled by Steel-types like Jirachi and Empoleon; while these Pokemon are often crippled by Trick, this forces Gardevoir to have to choose between continuing to act as speed control or crippling a Pokemon that otherwise walls it. Gardevoir's typing is also underwhelming defensively; when combined with its poor bulk, this leaves it vulnerable to faster revenge killers, such as Choice Scarf Krookodile, and priority from the likes of Bisharp and Entei.
