Strategy Overview
Avalugg's exceptional physical bulk and access to Rapid Spin and Recover make it one of the best physical walls in the tier for balanced and defensive teams. Avalugg can comfortably take some of the most powerful physical attacks in the tier, such as Basculegion-M's Wave Crash and Staraptor's Brave Bird, as well as super effective attacks from Fighting-types such as Infernape and Paldean Tauros-W. Avalugg can also dish out serious damage by weaponizing its Defense stat with Body Press and hitting hard with moves like Avalanche and Earthquake, thanks to its high Attack stat. However, Avalugg is extremely frail on the special side, which allows special wallbreakers such as Munkidori and Porygon-Z to easily force it out. Avalugg's Ice typing makes it weak to common physical wallbreakers in the tier like Incineroar, Paldean Tauros-F, and Flamigo and heavily reliant on Terastallization to wall many physical threats. Avalugg is also very susceptible to Knock Off, since it relies on Heavy-Duty Boots to circumvent its Stealth Rock weakness.
