Strategy Overview

Spearow does not excel at much, but carves out a niche by having an option to heavily damage Rock- and Steel-types in Drill Run, while other Flying-types such as Taillow and Fletchling cannot deal as much damage with their coverage moves. Spearow also has decent Speed and Attack, alongside an alright movepool, but that is where the positives end.

Spearow's typing doesn't really help it offensively. It also leaves it with very few resistances and weaknesses to Ice-, Electric-, and Rock-type moves, compounded by being extremely frail. Spearow also has a mediocre ability in Sniper that doesn't provide much usefulness. Spearow is also weak to Stealth Rock, which means it has limited switch-in opportunities and when paired with Life Orb and Double-Edge recoil, Spearow will be worn down very easily. Spearow is almost completely outclassed by Pokemon such as Doduo, Fletchling, Taillow, or even Starly, as they have better Attack, better Speed, and have better abilities.
