Strategy Overview

Seismitoad's solid typing and ability allow it to check and counter many threats in OU, including Mega Manectric, Rotom-W, and Mega Metagross lacking Grass Knot, or to function as a powerful sweeper under rain. Seismitoad has a niche in rain, only shared with Mega Swampert, as a sweeper that cannot be crippled by Thunder Wave. However, Seismitoad has a 4x weakness to Grass-type moves which can easily be exploited by Grass-types such as Mega Venusaur and Ferrothorn, and very little with which to fight back. It also has a lack of reliable recovery, which means it has limited longevity and an over-reliance on Leftovers or switching into Water-type moves. Seismitoad also faces very strong competition from Gastrodon as a bulky Water-type, but Seismitoad has access to Knock Off and Stealth Rock, in addition to higher Speed and better physical bulk.
