Strategy Overview
Quagsire's plethora of admirable defensive traits, such as its great typing, decent physical bulk, reliable recovery, and Unaware ability, allows it to maintain a niche on stall-based teams as a reliable check to threatening setup sweepers such as Mega Absol and Cobalion. Quagsire's Electric-type immunity and key resistances to Fire-, Steel-, and Rock-type moves alongside its access to Toxic also allow it to take full advantage of Unaware to tank various physical hits, stall foes, and overall fit very comfortably on defensive teams. Unfortunately, Quagsire's 4x weakness to Grass-type attacks leaves it extremely vulnerable to the likes of Celebi, Roserade, and Mega Sceptile, as well as to common carriers of Grass-type coverage such as Infernape and Heliolisk. Furthermore, Quagsire's middling mixed bulk leaves it susceptible to special attackers and especially powerful physical attackers such as Crawdaunt and Haxorus, and its passiveness makes Swampert a better decision on non-stall teams. Overall, Quagsire is a rather niche option that only fits on very defensive teams, but can be very beneficial for its teammates as a stop to certain setup sweepers.
