Volcarona boasts a great Special Attack and access to strong STAB moves in Flamethrower, Heat Wave, and Bug Buzz, which when combined with its Speed allows Volcarona to outspeed common threats such as Tapu Lele and non-Choice Scarf Landorus-T and dish out heavy damage.

Good natural special bulk allows Volcarona to survive numerous special attacks like Choice Specs Tapu Fini's Muddy Water and Tapu Lele's Psychic in Psychic Terrain.

Volcarona primarily functions as a setup sweeper; after using Quiver Dance, it can outspeed and KO threats such as Mega Metagross, Tapu Koko, Aegislash, and Adamant Choice Scarf Landorus-T.
